Tshogyel Lungtok Tengayling
Nestled in the Paro Valley of Bhutan, the nunnery of Tshogyel Lungtok Tengayling — known locally as Chorten Gangkha — is one of the most historically and spiritually significant sites in the region. The land itself is ancient: at its heart stands the Gyelshel Karmai Chorten, a 12th century stupa said to house the relics of Sangay Yoesung, a principal disciple of Buddha Shakyamuni, as well as precious gems brought from the four directions. This is a place held in deep veneration — a threshold between the ordinary world and the sacred.

The nunnery was reconstituted on this land by the 9th Neyphug Tulku, who gifted its custodianship to H.E. Chung Tulku Rinpoche in recognition of their long monastic friendship. Motivated by the wish to create greater opportunities for the women’s sangha and to accumulate merit for the benefit of all beings, H.E. Chung Rinpoche accepted, formally marking his role as custodian with the commissioning of a golden pinnacle for the stupa in June 2022.

The practice at Tshogyel Lungtok Tengayling is rooted in the Nyingthig, Peling, and Yangti Nakpo traditions — some of the very lineages at the heart of Yangti’s own work. Five nuns live and practice here, dedicating their lives to spiritual cultivation and the preservation of Bhutan’s Buddhist heritage. It is through H.E. Chung Rinpoche — Yangti’s Yangti Nakpo lineage holder and a beloved advisor — that this connection has formed, and it is in the spirit of that connection that Yangti is proud to begin formally supporting this community in 2026

Medical Care
Access to adequate medical care is one of the most pressing needs for the nuns. Funds support basic healthcare, access to medical services, and the provisions necessary to maintain the health and wellbeing of the community.
