About the event

Join Lama Justin for a profound  retreat into the heart of Dzogchen meditation from the Karma Nyingthik! This 10 Day Online retreat is open to participants of the year-long intensive program focusing on Rangjung Dorje’s unique Dzogchen cycle, The Marvelous Guide to Actual Practice this program will serve as further deepening of the practices introduced in an intensive retreat setting.

The 14th century Tibetan meditation master known as Rangjung Dorje, the 3rd Karmapa, is historically significant within the Tibetan Buddhist world for many reasons, one of which being that he is widely regarded as the first officially recognized tulku. A master of many aspects of the vajrayana tradition, his works and impact still remain fresh and vital to understanding mahamudra, the vajra body, and a host of other topics.

Rangjung Dorje was also a contemporary of the great Dzogchen master Longchenpa and studied and practiced under Longchenpa’s primary teacher Rigdzin Kumaradza. According to Rangjung Dorje’s biography, he had a vision in which the early Dzogchen masters Vimalamitra and Padmasambhava appeared and dissolved into the point between his eyebrows. It is said that as this happened, Rangjung Dorje instantly received the transmission for all 17 of the early Dzogchen tantras along with a visionary cycle of Dzogchen meditation that arose in his mind which he subsequently wrote down. This became known as the Karma Nyingthik – a unique approach to manifesting the clarity and timeless awareness that is our enlightened nature.

Dzogchen (Sanskrit: Ati Yoga) is the most simple, direct, and profound path to reveal the sky-like nature of our own mind which is clear, vast, and unobstructed by the clouds of afflictive emotions.

Whats Included:

During the course of this 10-day online retreat we will engage in the practice of Trekchö and Thogal as introduced in the Marvelous Guide by Rangjung Dorje, along with a series of supportive preliminary practices which we will progress through over the course of the retreat. This supportive structure will allow participants a way to access the experience of the mind’s true nature in daily life and liberating afflictive emotions so that the rigpa-state is able to be experienced.

On our first day, as an auspicious opening to our retreat Lama Justin will offer the empowerment for Palden Lhamo Dudsolma, a very special dharma protector for the Karma Kagyu. For the remainder of the retreat we will engage in this protector practice each evening.

Each day will have four live online sessions (all of which will be recorded) – a morning meditation session, a dharma teaching and practice session, an afternoon group practice session, and a protector session every evening. We will also offer a  daily optional Nejang Yoga sessions led by Jasmine Pema. Nejang is a profound but simple Tibetan Yoga compiled by the 14th century yogi Butön Rinchen Drup, this yoga is known for its profound healing potential both on the mundane physical level but also for ultimate realization. Engaging in practices such as these during intensive sedentary retreat can help to resolve any blockages or lung imbalance for practitioners. Lastly, we will close our retreat with an evening Tsok practice concluding with sangha sharing and reflections in replace of our usual evening session & protectors from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
